Halifax International Security Forum gets underway

The annual Halifax International Security Forum kicks off Friday with a hefty slate of U.S., NATO and other allied officials gathered for three days of panels, closed-door discussions and elbow rubbing.

The first session, “After the Fall - US leadership in the world after the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban," takes a look at the future of strategies for the global democracy agenda. President Joe Biden has been explicit in saying this is the end of using U.S. military force for democratic nation-building. So what is the way forward?

The panel, moderated by POLITICO's Luiza Savage, features U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.); Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, former president of the Republic of Croatia; Sabrina Saqeb, former member of parliament, Afghanistan; and Janice Stein, founding director, Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto.
